Water Response Team request …

” … The Water Response Team is calling for a voluntary 10% reduction in surface and groundwater use throughout our watershed area until further notice. Non – essential use of water is being discouraged. This may not apply to Municipal Water users whose supply is Lake Huron or Georgian Bay.

Continued dry weather may lead to more extreme low water conditions. Additional restrictions on water use may be requested if this occurs. …”

Park Cleanup

Volunteers from our Ratepayers conducted a cleanup of both Cedar Hill and Centennial Parks in May.  Although the Township mows the grass in the parks and does minimal maintenance, the majority of the upkeep and beautifying of these local parks is due to the volunteers!  Pictured are Bill Wilson, Helen Elliott, Dennis Cooper, Susan Hindle, Keith Davidson, while Bob Hindle took the photo.  Thanks to our Volunteers!

New Chili Cook-Off Champions!

Organizer Ken McPherson presents the coveted Chili Cook-Off trophy to the winning team, composed of Corey McQuigge and Mary Beth Gray, of the Kemble-Sarawak UCW.  They claimed to have “higher” support, but we think the special ingredient might also have helped to win it.

All the Cooks provided excellent choices, and the friendly rivalry added to the day. It is recognized that the generosity of the Cooks is what made the event possible. Also, a big thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make the 2018 Great Chili Cook-Off a wonderful community event. On behalf of the IVDAARA Executive, thank you.

Wine & Cheese Event SOLD OUT

20160625_175941_resizedOn June 25th, IVDAARA hosted their first ever Wine and Cheese tasting event which was held at the Tom Thomson gallery.

All the guests who attended the sold out event enjoyed 6 different wines from Vineland Estates including the ‘Game Changer’ wines made using new technology that uses only ‘perfect’ grapes!  These were served with 6 recommended cheese pairings including  several exotic cheeses from France and Quebec!

It was a fun and informative evening and a good opportunity to spend time in the company of new and old friends.

Great Lakes water levels

On June 13, IVDAARA members attended a Mallory Beach Ratepayers’ Association meeting to hear Mary Mutter’s detailed presentation ‘The Great Lakes Water Levels’.

As part of The Sierra Club, Mary has great depth of knowledge of the current situation and she is working closely with both ours and the USA governments on the issues that affect us all.

Restore Our Water started when a group of passionate Canadians cottage owners in Ontario gathered to discuss the important problem of water levels in the Great Lakes. Inspired by a joint conviction i.e., “there is a solution,” they formed a group, supported by individuals from business, education, academia and other associations.

Wiarton-Keppel International Airport

You may have heard through the media that Georgian Bluffs has just purchased South Bruce’s 1/2 share in the aiport for $600,000,  in order to take complete ownership.

The Mayor also said that they want to keep it certified, which means that millions of dollars will need to be spent to fix it up to regulatory standard.

These decisions have been made with no public input.

The President of the Islandview Drive and Area Ratepayers Association sent the Mayor and Council a letter expressing concerns and asking for a public meeting on May 8th; he followed this up with another letter to the Mayor and Council on May 28th – he is asking for a public meeting BEFORE the Airport purchase is finalised (June 10th).

We will advise you asap if we are able to convince the Mayor to hold this public meeting.

More information to be posted as it occurs.

LETTER from IVDAARA to Mayor Barfoot and Councilors May 28, 2015

Friends of Kemble Heritage Hills Update

Picture1Leading up the the fall election, Georgian Bluffs Council disappointingly made no decision on the maintenance and re-opening of Suicide Hill and Dodd’s W Hill.

That decision will now rest with the new Council.  However, Council did authorize the payment of nearly $30,000 to a consultant for a complete roads study … this study was conducted in the late summer and evaluated the state of every single Georgian Bluffs road and recommended that they all be repaired to a minimum class 5 standard which, if approved, would mean an expenditure of tens of millions of dollars over the next decade.  The study included an exorbitant assessment to construct the Kemble Heritage Hills also to a class 5 standard, which if carried out, would completely destroy the heritage aspect that we are trying to retain.

The Friends of the Kemble Heritage Hills will continue to monitor Council and budget meetings with the goal of keeping the “heritage” in the Kemble Heritage Hills and to encourage the repair and re-opening of the hill roads at a reasonable and realistic cost.”

Show your support for the Heritage Hills by joining us at the PUBLIC BUDGET MEETING January 19 & 20, 2015 at the Township Office, 177964 Grey Rd 18.
